Research Raymond has conducted research and analysis on environmental and historical issues. Apart from academic history papers, his publications have included papers on contemporary environmental topics. He has also contributed to (unpublished) multi-authored academic writing. He has undertaken site specific research and recording. His specialist areas are the history of water supply and pollution, the evolution of contaminated land and brownfield policy, and landscape history. He has also worked on the history of wind power and of air pollution. Using archival material is obviously important, along with past technical publications. For the physical environment however, whether landscape or built, he sees field trips as a key part of understanding the past. Details of publications are on the Past Work page.
